It is estimated that more than 30 million cases are pending for disposal in the Courts of India which includes a variety of civil and criminal cases. In order to expedite the resolution of disputes arising out of contracts, and improve the ease of doing business in the country, the Government of India had passed the Arbitration and Reconciliation Act in 1996 and amended the same in 2015.
